Delicious Drink Recipes Inspired by Fantasy Books

Cocktails are an adult treat for any occasion, and I’m sure you’ve seen some drinks inspired by fantasy books, or even movies and television. Since the Far From Home series is for kids, I wondered how we could bring them into the fun. The product? Mocktails inspired by the books!

I’ll be honest, I enjoy delicious drinks even more than food or snacks. Something about a refreshing drink just lifts my spirits, and I need something to sip while I read. I’m always looking for recipes for delicious drinks, but this was my first time creating them.

Ocean Sky Recipe

The blue color of ‘The Ocean Sky’ pays homage to the Far From Home Series book covers, and, of course, plays on the title. If your favorite popsicle is the blue one, this drink is for you!

Ingredients:

  • Calypso Ocean Blue Lemonade

  • Sprite (or any lemon lime soda)

  • Lindy’s Italian Ice in Blue Raspberry

  • Blueberry simple syrup mix

Fill your glass a little over halfway with your blue raspberry lemonade. Then, fill the remainder with sprite and a splash of your simple syrup to taste. Top it all off with a scoop (or two) of your italian ice. This helps keep things cold and adds a cute, tasty garnish!

The Everything Spritz Recipe

Did anyone else imagine the bright, beautiful yellows of the Everything when they read City of Lights? I wanted to create something that would replicate that in a glass: And so we have The Everything Spritz. I love anything golden, glimmery, or shimmery, so this one features some fun edible glitter you can find at most supermarkets! The taste is tropical with pineapple and coconut, and the cotton candy topper is perfect for the kids to put in and watch dissolve.

Ingredients:

  • Crush Pineapple soda

  • Coconut syrup (I used crystal light)

  • Edible cake decorating glitter

  • Lime juice

  • Yellow cotton candy

Start with a little lime juice. This flavor can be hit or miss with the kids, so add as much as you think they’ll enjoy. Next, fill your glass with pineapple soda and add some coconut syrup. I’m not a huge coconut person so for mine I only added a few drops. Sprinkle some edible glitter dust into the drink and stir to disperse the shimmer. Finally, add the cotton candy on top and watch as it dissolves!

The Fruity Oracle Recipe

The Oracle Drink recipe came to me when I saw the purple color of the Great Big Ocean Sky cover. I got to preview it a little early and was excited and mesmerized! This one is for the fruity drink fans out there. If you or your kids are into fruit punches, you’re going to love sipping this one while you’re immersed. It’s also the most simple to make. If you made the first drink, you’ll be reusing your blueberry syrup! And this time, we will add frozen berries for ice. Yum!

Ingredients:

  • Frozen berry mix

  • Fruit punch soda

  • Blueberry simple syrup

Add your frozen berries with a little ice if you like things extra cold. Next, fill your glass nearly to the top with a fruit punch-flavored fizzy soda. I used Jarritos and it was delicious! Add blueberry syrup to taste and watch as the red slowly turns into a lovely purple. I loved the blueberry taste so I added plenty. Taste test along the way! Stir it and enjoy!

Drinks inspired by fantasy books may be nothing new, but I think the experience of making them with younger readers can enhance their joy for books. Kids will love helping you make them, and you can talk about the book while you do. If you’d like to see recipes for delicious mocktails and more, check out the Far From Home TikTok!
